The book of the month

An introduction, reading prompts, the meeting date

On the first of the month, publish the article for the chosen book: the cover, the author, why this title, three questions to guide the reading, an excerpt read aloud as an audio episode. Each circle gets its book in its own section, and a push sent to its group announces the pick.

One group per circle

The Tuesday circle, the crime fiction circle, young readers

Each reading circle is a user group, with its own reserved section. Members comment on their book's article: first impressions, a favorite passage, a reasoned disagreement. Only those who can open the section see the discussion. A keen reader can belong to two circles and follow both conversations.

A book club's month in the app

From choosing the book to the meeting.
  1. The 1st

The book's article appears in the circle's section; a push alerts its members.
  2. Reading

Everyone reads at their own pace and comments on the article chapter by chapter.
  3. The day before

A scheduled push gives the time and place of the meeting.
  4. The meeting

At the café or the library; the write-up joins the section.

Meetings

The session agenda, the venues on a map

Enter each meeting in the Agenda, with the book, the time and the address; members add it to their phone calendar. A Map section gathers the usual venues, the partner bookshop, the library room, the Thursday café, with directions.

The public library

Four circles, one of them for teenagers: each sees its book and its discussion, and the library runs everything from a single back office.

The literary society

Its members live all over the region; the online discussion replaces half the meetings.

The writing workshop

If your members write rather than read, a workshop booking app handles prompts and submitted pieces.

Book club app: your questions

Who can read a circle's discussion?

Only the members of its group: the discussion takes place in the comments of the article, placed in a section that only this group can open. Other circles and visitors do not see it.

How does a newcomer join a circle?

They create an account in the app, fill in the membership form if you use one, then you add them to the circle's group in the back office.

Can we sell the books in the app?

No, this app has no shop. Point to your partner bookshop; a bookshop that wants to sell online would use GoodBarber's eCommerce app.

Can the club collect its dues in the app?

No: in-app purchase only sells digital content, and this app relies on member accounts and groups, which excludes selling Memberships. The app is the club's space; your meetings are what bring it to life.

Do I need to be good with technology to run the club?

No: publishing an article, adding a meeting to the Agenda or placing a member in a group is done from the back office, without code.

Which plan for a book club?

The Premium plan, completed by the Authentication and User groups extensions; or the Pro plan, where they already come included. Without member accounts, the Standard plan does not fit.

What a book club app costs

With Premium, the club has its iPhone and Android apps. Reserved circles rely on the Authentication and User groups extensions, paid with Premium, included in Pro. Everything else is included.
Premium · native apps and web version55€ /month, billed yearly
Authentication, a Premium option12€ /month
User groups, a Premium option5€ /month
Pro · Authentication and Groups included105€ /month, billed yearly
The club sells nothing through the app, so no commission is due. Each store bills its own developer account.
