Grinding a complete geometrical contour on a through-feed machine can only be performed using the peripheral grinding method. A cup or segmented wheel is not suitable for such work. But the problem is easily solved with the help of one or more additional grinding stations and an integrated profiler. As an alternative to a profiler, the work can be successfully handled using an extra-hard pre-profiled grinding wheel, e.g. a galvanic bonded CBN or diamond wheel. Selecting the most efficient technique depends on such factors as the workpiece profile, the material and permissible tolerances.
